Etymology: < full adj. + blood n., perhaps after half-blood n. Compare earlier whole blood n. 1. With use with reference to breeding (originally of animals) (see senses A. 2, B. 1) compare German Vollblut, noun (late 18th cent.; apparently after English), vollblütig, adjective (mid 18th cent.).

1. (Usually as two words.) The state or fact of having both parents in common with another person; full siblingship. Also more generally: the state or fact of being descended from the same two parents. Esp. in of (the) full blood. Cf. half-blood n. 1, whole blood n. 1a.
