Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prōcūrātrīx.
Etymology: < classical Latin prōcūrātrīx female superintendent, feminine form corresponding to prōcūrātor procurator n.1; compare -trix suffix. In sense 2 apparently partly after French †procuratresse (1604 in the passage translated in quot. 1606 at sense 2). Compare Middle French, French procuratrice female procurator or agent (1529).
