Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin prosopalgia.
Etymology: < scientific Latin prosopalgia (1791 or earlier) < ancient Greek πρόσωπον face (see prosopon n.) + post-classical Latin -algia -algia comb. form. Compare German Prosopalgie (1797 or earlier).
Medicine. Now rare.
Neuralgia affecting the face; spec. trigeminal neuralgia.
