Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Greek πρόσωπoν , agnosia n.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πρόσωπoν face, person (see prosopon n.) + agnosia n., after German Prosopagnosie (J. Bodamer 1948, in Archiv f. Psychiatrie 179 6).
Medicine.
A neurological abnormality characterized by the inability to recognize faces.
