Etymology: < Anglo-Norman privément and Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French priveement (Middle French, French privément ) privately, secretly (c1139 in Anglo-Norman) < privé privy adj. + -ment , suffix forming adverbs. Compare slightly later privily adv. and later privately adv.In privement enceinte adj. at main sense after Anglo-Norman or Law French privement enseint (16th cent. or earlier).
Obsolete.
