Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French Prisunic.
Etymology: < French Prisunic (1937 or earlier) < prix unique , literally ‘single price’ (1910 or earlier; < prix price n. + unique unique adj.), with arbitrary respelling; so called because the goods in these shops were originally all sold at the same price. Compare earlier Monoprix n., which itself acquired Prisunic in 1997.
In France: one of a chain of shops in which inexpensive goods are sold; (also) any similar shop selling low-priced goods.
