Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin praemonēre.
Etymology: < classical Latin praemonēre to forewarn, foretell ( < prae- pre- prefix + monēre to advise, warn: see moneo n.), after monish v., admonish v.
1. transitive. To forewarn; to advise, caution, notify, or admonish beforehand. Frequently with of, that-clause, or infinitive. Now somewhat rare.
