Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pray v., -able suffix.
Etymology: < pray v. + -able suffix. With early use compare Anglo-Norman and Old French, Middle French priable (13th cent.).
Now chiefly U.S. or in reference to Eliot's use (see quot. 1941 at sense 2).
