Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French poule.
Etymology: < French poule girl, young woman (13th cent. in Old French as a term of endearment, in form pole ), (colloquial and slang) promiscuous woman (1866), mistress (1890), transferred uses of pole , poule hen (see pull n.2). In poule de luxe n. after French poule de luxe (1926 or earlier in this sense).
slang. A girl or young woman, esp. a promiscuous one. poule de luxe n. a prostitute, a call girl.
