Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin postulātōrius.
Etymology: < classical Latin postulātōrius making a request, supplicatory < postulāt- , past participial stem of postulāre (see postulate v.) + -ōrius -ory suffix2. Compare French postulatoire (1552 in Middle French). N.E.D. (1907) gives only the pronunciation (pǫ·stiŭlătəri) /ˈpɒstjʊlətərɪ/.
