Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: post- prefix, exile n.1, -ic suffix.
Etymology: < post- prefix + exile n.1 + -ic suffix, after German nachexilisch (1857 or earlier). Compare later exilic adj.In quot. a1861 apparently with reference to a German work ( A. Köhler Die nachexilischen Propheten (1860–65)).
Of or relating to the period of Jewish history following the Babylonian exile.
