Etymology: < classical Latin pont-, pōns bridge (see pons n.) + -ine suffix1 + -al suffix1. Compare pontine adj.3 N. E. D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (pǫ·ntinăl) /ˈpɒntɪnəl/.
