A very large citrus fruit (also called shaddock), the fruit of Citrus maxima, which has a thick loose rind and coarse dry pulp and is an ancestor of the grapefruit ( C. paradisi); esp. a smaller variety of this (cf. pampelmoes n.). Also (now chiefly U.S. and South African): a grapefruit. Also: any of the trees producing these fruits.
