Etymology: < poly- comb. form + -zoic comb. form2. Compare French polyzoique (dated 1855 in Robert Dict. alphabétique et analogique (1986)).

a. Consisting of many individual organisms or parts of a similar nature; spec. (of a tapeworm) composed of a number of proglottids. Also (rare): polyzoan.
