Chiefly British.
A tough, light, translucent thermoplastic material which is a polymer of ethene (ethylene) and is used esp. for moulded and extruded articles, as film for bags and other packaging, and as a coating. Frequently attributive and in parasynthetic compounds. Cf. polyethylene n.
