Etymology: < poly- comb. form + ancient Greek στόμα mouth (see stoma n.) + classical Latin -ium (see -y suffix4), after German Polystomie (1878 in the passage translated in quot. 1878).
Zoology. Obsolete. rare.
Each of the numerous suctorial mouths occurring on the arms of the manubrium in some scyphozoan jellyfish.
