Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French polysémie.
Etymology: < French polysémie ( M. Bréal Essai de sémantique (1897) xiv. 155; compare quot. 1900; < post-classical Latin polysemus or its etymon ancient Greek πολύσημος (see polysemous adj.) + French -ie -ia suffix1), with alteration of the ending after words in -ia suffix1.
