Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin polygōnus , polygonum , -ous suffix; polygon n., -ous suffix.
Etymology: Either < classical Latin polygōnus polygon adj. + -ous suffix, or < polygon n. (or its etymon post-classical Latin polygonum) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier polygon adj., polygonal adj.
Now rare.
