Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek πολύχωρος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek πολύχωρος divided into many compartments (recorded in an inscription in this sense; recorded in Hellenistic Greek authors in sense ‘spacious, extensive’; < ancient Greek πολυ- poly- comb. form + χῶρος place: see chorography n.1) + -ic suffix. Compare earlier tetrachoric adj.

Designating a table in which data are divided into three or more classes by each of two or more criteria; of or relating to such a table; esp. designating an estimate of the product-moment coefficient derived from such a table, and concepts used in obtaining such an estimate.
