1959 M. Tallman Dict. Amer. Folklore 230 Plogues, this was the name given to the buckwheat cakes introduced by the French-Canadians in the early Aroostook timber camps.
1972 Chron.-Telegram (Elyria, Ohio) 11 Jan. 11/4 Plogues, a dish resembling a cross between a sponge and a pancake. Actually, it is a buckwheat pancake cooked through from one side only.
1993 Canad. Geographic Jan. 59/2 Booths sell pizza and ployes, the traditional Madawaskan buckwheat pancakes.
