Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French polisson.
Etymology: < French polisson rogue, vagabond (1628), person without merit (1653), urchin, rascal (1680) < polisse theft (1628; < polir to steal (second half of the 15th cent.), specific sense of polir (see polish v.)) + -on (see -oon suffix).
An urchin, a rascal; a dishonest or rude person.
