Etymology: < scientific Latin Plectellaria (1887 or earlier; < post-classical Latin plecta interwoven border (Vulgate; < classical Latin plectere to plait, interweave: see plexus n.) + -ella -ella suffix + -aria -ary suffix1) + -an suffix. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (plektėlēə·riăn) /plɛktɪˈlɛərɪən/.
Zoology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Of or relating to the former group Plectellaria of radiolarians, comprising those that either lack a shell or have a shell consisting of a single siliceous ring or a framework of spicules.
