Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: platitude n., English -in- , -arian suffix.
Etymology: < platitude n. + -in- (see etymological note) + -arian suffix, after e.g. latitudinarian adj., latitudinarian n. With use as adjective compare slightly earlier platitudinary adj.The medial -in- in this and related words is ultimately after classical Latin -tūdin-, -tūdō (see -tude suffix). N.E.D.(1907) gives only the pronunciation (plæ·titiūdinēə·riăn) /ˌplætɪtjuːdɪˈnɛərɪən/.
