Etymology: < Argentinian Spanish piquillin (1770), perhaps < Quechua (Santiago del Estero, Argentina) pikillín (if this is not itself < Spanish).

Also piquillin bush. A spiny South American shrub, Condalia microphylla (family Rhamnaceae), with edible fruits.
