Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: to pin down.
Etymology: < to pin down (see pin v.1 5b).
1. Military (originally U.S.). The action or fact of restricting the movement of troops, positions, etc., by means of air power or guided missile systems. Hence, of a soldier, military unit, etc.: inability to manoeuvre. Frequently attributive.
