Compare post-classical Latin -gnosia (formations in which are found from the 17th cent., e.g. astrognosia astrognosy n.).Found in a small number of formations from the late 18th cent., as geognosy n., oryctognosy n., aerognosy n., frequently after French formations in -gnosie or German formations in -gnosie.
