Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek πῖαρ , -haemia comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πῖαρ (noun) fat ( < the same Indo-European base as Sanskrit pīvas, Avestan pīvah fat) + -haemia comb. form. Compare French piarrhémie (1861 or earlier).With the form piarrhaemia compare ichorrhaemia n. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (pəiˌărī·miă) /paɪəˈriːmɪə/.
Medicine. Obsolete.
The presence of excessive fat in the blood; lipaemia.
