Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Physiophylie.
Etymology: < German Physiophylie (E. Haeckel Anthropogenie (ed. 3, 1877) i. 20) < physio- physio- comb. form2 + -phylie -phyly comb. form. Compare morphophyly n.In the first edition of his work, Haeckel uses the term Physiophylogenie ( Anthropogenie (1874) i. 18) to describe this development (compare phylogeny n.).
