Origin: Either (i) from a proper name, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Spanish. Etymons: proper name Perón , -ism suffix; Spanish peronismo.
Etymology: Either < the name of Juan Domingo Perón (1895–1974), Argentine politician and president of Argentina (1946–55 and 1973–4) + -ism suffix, or < Spanish peronismo Peronismo n. Compare slightly earlier Peronismo n. and also Peronista n.
Politics.
The political principles and policies of Juan Domingo Perón; the political movement supporting Perón or his policies; = Peronismo n. Cf. justicialism n.Perón advocated nationalism and the organization of labour in the interests of social progress, and advanced an ideology combining various elements of fascism and socialism.
