A binary compound of chlorine containing the maximum possible proportion of chlorine.Perchlorides are now named differently; e.g. perchloride of carbon, C2Cl6, is hexachloroethane (or perchloroethane); perchloride of iron, Fe2Cl6, is iron( iii) chloride, iron trichloride, or ferric chloride.
