Etymology: < Middle French perigneus (1533 in an isolated attestation in the source translated in quot. ?1541), probably a transmission error for *perineeux < Middle French, French périnée (although this is apparently first attested slightly later: 1534; < post-classical Latin perineum perineum n.) + -eux -ous suffix. Compare earlier perineum n. and later perineal adj.Middle French perigneus could perhaps alternatively be interpreted as a transmission error for an unattested Middle French borrowing of the post-classical Latin form perineos (see perineum n.).
