Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian peperoncino.
Etymology: < Italian peperoncino chilli pepper (a1863; also as pepperoncino (rare)) < peperone (see pepperoni n.) + -cino , extended form of -ino (see -ine suffix4).
Chiefly Cookery.
A thin, red chilli pepper with wrinkled skin, having a slightly sweet, medium-hot flavour. Usually in plural.
