Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: pheno- comb. form, genetics n. 3
Etymology: < pheno- comb. form + genetics n. 3 (see -ic suffix 2), after German Phänogenetik (V. Haecker Entwicklungsgeschichtliche Eigenschaftsanalyse (1918) i. 4). Compare phenotype n.Haecker earlier used the term Phänogenese ( Zeitschr. f. induktive Abstammungs- und Vererbungslehre (1915) 14 260).
