Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish peludo.
Etymology: < American Spanish peludo, use as noun of peludo (adjective) hairy (first half of the 15th cent. or earlier) < pelo hair (see pelon n. and adj.) + -udo, suffix forming adjectives from nouns.
A South American hairy armadillo of the genus Chaetophractus.
