Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Peltier.
Etymology: < the name of J. C. A. Peltier (1785–1845), French amateur scientist, who discovered the effect in 1834.
Physics.
Used attributively with reference to an effect whereby heat is given out or absorbed when an electric current passes across a junction between two materials; Peltier coefficient n. the quantity of heat liberated or absorbed at a junction between two conductors, or between a given conductor and a reference conductor, when unit charge passes between them.
