Etymology: < routinize v. + -ation suffix.In sense 2 after German Veralltäglichung, lit. ‘the turning of (something) into an everyday matter’ (a1920, compare M. Weber Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft (1922) iii. v. §11, published posthumously; < ver- , prefix expressing change or transformation (see for- prefix1) + alltäglich (adjective) everyday + -ung -ing suffix1).
