Etymology: < post-classical Latin peloria (D. Rudberg in C. Linnaeus Amœnitates Academicæ (1749) I. 281) < ancient Greek πέλωρος monstrous ( < πέλωρ prodigy, monster, of uncertain origin) + post-classical Latin -ia -ia suffix1.
Botany.
Abnormal regularity or symmetry of structure in a flower that is normally zygomorphic or asymmetric.
