Etymology: < German Peliom (A. G. Werner 1818, in C. A. S. Hoffmann Handb. der Mineralogie IV. 117) < ancient Greek πελίωμα livid spot ( < πελιοῦσθαι to be or become livid (see peliosis n.) + -μα , suffix forming nouns: see -oma comb. form), in reference to its greyish blue colour.

Mineralogy. Now rare.
