Etymology: < post-classical Latin pax regis (frequently a1087–1461 in British sources) < classical Latin pāx peace (see peace n.) + rēgis , genitive of rēx king (see rex n.¹ and adj.). Compare French paix du roi (1835, with reference to Britain). Compare Pax Dei n., pax ecclesiae n.
