Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pattern v., -er suffix1; pattern n., -er suffix1.
Etymology: Either < pattern v. + -er suffix1, or < pattern n. + -er suffix1. Compare French patronnier maker of patterns or models, especially in lace-making or shoemaking (1680, 1876 respectively).
A person who draws, arranges, or makes patterns.
