Origin: A borrowing from Gujarati. Etymon: Gujarati paṭoḷũ.
Etymology: < Gujarati paṭoḷũ (plural paṭoḷã ) < Sanskrit paṭṭa cloth, silk cloth + (perhaps) dukūla fine cloth. Compare Portuguese patola (early 16th cent. in passage translated in quot. 1866).
Brightly coloured fine silk cloth made by dyeing the thread before weaving; a cloth or sari made of this.
