Etymology: < post-classical Latin partilis partial, (of an aspect) exact (4th cent.), divisible (5th cent.) < classical Latin partīre part v. + -ilis -ile suffix. Compare French partil (1684 or earlier, in sense 2). Compare partial adj.
Now rare.
