Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French parichnos.
Etymology: < French parichnos (C. E. Bertrand 1891, in Trav. & Mém. Facultés de Lille 2 vi. 84) < para- para- prefix1 + ancient Greek ἴχνος track, trace (see ichnite n.).
Botany.
A strand of parenchymatous tissue accompanying a leaf trace, found in fossil lycopods of the order Lepidodendrales and, in vestigial form, as canals in some living lycopods, esp. of the genus Isoetes (quillworts).
