Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: para- prefix1, Greek ἀστήρ, ἄστρον.
Etymology: < para- prefix1 + ancient Greek ἀστήρ aster n., after parhelion n., paraselene n. (see quot. 1653). In form parastron < para- prefix1 + ancient Greek ἄστρον star (see astro- comb. form).
Obsolete.
A (supposed) image of a star, analogous to a parhelion. Cf. parhelion n.Apparently an isolated use.
