A triangular charge or subordinary consisting of a figure formed by two lines meeting in an acute angle (generally assumed to represent an arrowhead) and pointing downwards. in pile: arranged in the form of a pile. party per pile: divided by lines in the form of a pile. Cf. pily adj.2 and adv.
