单词 paralogy
释义

paralogyn.

Brit. /pəˈralədʒi/, U.S. /pəˈrælədʒi/
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin paralogus ; Greek παράλογος , -y suffix3; para- prefix1, -logy comb. form.
Etymology: In sense 1 < post-classical Latin paralogus fallacious (a1200, 1609 in British sources) or its etymon ancient Greek παράλογος beyond calculation, unexpected, in Hellenistic Greek also beyond reason, unreasonable ( < παρα- para- prefix1 + λόγος reason: see Logos n.) + -y suffix3; compare Hellenistic Greek παραλογία false form (in grammar). In senses 2 and 3 probably independently < para- prefix1 + -logy comb. form, after homology n.
