Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: palmi- comb. form, -form comb. form2.
Etymology: < palmi- comb. form + -form comb. form2. In sense 1 after scientific Latin palmiformis (A. P. de Candolle Théorie élémentaire de la bot. (1813) 337). Compare French palmiforme (1813 in de Candolle in sense 1 (see above), 1854 in sense 2a).
1. Botany. = palmatiform adj. (b) at palmati- comb. form . Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
