Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin palmētum.
Etymology: < classical Latin palmētum palm grove < palma palm n.1 + -ētum -etum suffix. N.E.D. (1904) treats this as non-naturalized and gives the pronunciation as (pælmī·tɒ̆m) /pælˈmiːtəm/.
A collection or plantation of palm trees; (Ecology) a plant association dominated by palms; an area characterized by this.
