单词 palmati-
释义

palmati-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin palmati-.
Etymology: < scientific Latin palmati-, combining form (in e.g. palmatifidus : see palmatifid adj. below) of palmatus palmate adj.: see -i- connective. Compare French palmati- (formations in which are found from at least the first half of the 19th cent.). Compare slightly earlier palmato- comb. form.Combining with second elements ultimately of Latin origin. Formations are found from the first half of the 19th cent. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciations (pælmēi·ti, pælmæ·ti) /pælˈmeɪtɪ/ /pælˈmætɪ/, and indicates that when the primary stress falls on the second syllable, -mat- is pronounced /mæt/, and when it falls on a later syllable it is pronounced /meɪt/.
Botany.
Forming adjectives with the sense ‘in a palmate manner’, ‘with a palmate arrangement’.
