Etymology: < French panifice (1570) < classical Latin pānificium making of bread, anything baked < pānis bread (see pain n.2) + -fic- ( < facere to make: see fact n., int., and adv.) + -ium, neuter of -ius, suffix forming adjectives.
Obsolete. rare.
The action or craft of making bread; (a loaf of) bread. (In quot. 1657 apparently in extended use.)
